UK: Potato Council attempts to fight consumption decline

The Potato Council has unveiled a new report aimed at addressing declining UK consumption trends. Figures for the year to May 25 show UK potato sales suffered an 8 per cent volume decline despite a 3.8 per cent rise in the category’s value as a whole last year. Prices are also suffering and the GB weekly average price for the week to June 27 was £146.05/tonne compared with £301.94/t for the same period last year.
