Potatoes in a fruit marketThe delay of a $14 million support package is not helping Western Australian potato growers transitioning out of the industry following deregulation. Western Australia’s potato industry, which was governed by the Potato Marketing Corporation (PMC), was the last of the state’s agriculture sector to be deregulated, with the transition beginning in July. It was due to be completed at the end of October. Growers looking to opt out were eligible for part of a $12 million support package, with the remaining $2 million going towards research and assessing future market potential. That support package was due to be distributed from the end of October. More
