Idaho potato pest-management seminar set

Miller Research plans its annual potato pest-management seminar from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Mountain Jan. 31 at the Historic Wilson Theater, 610 Fremont St., Rupert, Idaho.

Jeff Miller and Trent Taysom, field investigators with Rupert-based Miller Research, are slated to discuss how well current fungicides are working against Early Blight, Brown Spot, White Mold and Gray Mold, an announcement on the Pacific Northwest Pest Alert Network said. They also will cover the status of resistance to these fungicides.

Disease pressure on Idaho potato producers in 2018 was fairly light, but “there were still problems with Pink Rot. And every year, growers manage for foliar diseases,” Miller said in an interview. “The goal of our meeting is to help producers put together an effective disease-management plan for 2019.”

Taysom is scheduled to deliver presentations on Pink Rot as well as Rhizoctonia Canker and Tuber Black Scurf. He also plans to compare fumigation methods with Metam Sodium. Miller plans to discuss fungicides for foliar disease management, Fusarium Dry Rot and seed-piece decay, and the herbicide Glyphosate.
