Food firm signs UK-wide supermarket deal to supply Ayrshire potatoes

The delicious Ayrshire tattie – now given elevated status by the European Union as a protected geographical food – is available for summer salads and posh picnics throughout the British Isles this summer.

This season’s produce is being sold in England as Scotty Brand secures a nationwide listing with Asda for its famous Ayrshire new potatoes.

The distinctive new potatoes, which have received official EU protected geographical indication (PGI) status, are regarded as among the best in the world. They are only available in season from June until early September.

Scotty Brand has picked the cream of the Ayrshire crop, which is grown in Girvan on the west coast of Scotland, and the potatoes can now be found in more than 200 Asda stores.

They are sent to Asda and to other stockists in Scotland, such as Co-op, Lidl, Spar, Tesco and Waitrose, within as few as 24 hours from being lifted from Scottish soil. Scotty Brand expects to sell well over 1,000 tonnes this season.
